Good to know
Does every maze have a way through?
Yes. Mazes are built as a spanning tree of the grid, so every square can be reached and there is exactly one route between any two squares. A separate search then finds the route from START to FINISH for the solution page.
What makes a maze harder?
Easy mazes are built with long winding corridors and few branches (at most 12% of squares are junctions). Hard mazes branch constantly: at least 26% of squares are dead ends, and the route is at least as long as the rows and columns combined. Size is chosen separately.
